What is BIM quantity takeoff?

Every quantity comes from the model, not from a manual measurement

BIM quantity takeoff, known internationally as BIM Quantity Takeoff (QTO), extracts the quantities of modeled elements more accurately than methods based on 2D drawings alone. Every quantity comes from the digital model, so it updates quickly when the project changes: organized, traceable information for budgets, tenders, procurement, scheduling and cost control.

Quantities

The table fills with the model

Every element that enters the model enters the table: ducts, pipes, trays and fixtures are quantified from geometry, not from a manual reading of drawings.

  • Multidisciplinary tower

HVAC, plumbing and electrical in a single model.

  • Industrial plant

Tanks, pipes and equipment of a process plant.

  • Mechanical and electrical

Two disciplines of the same building, ready to quantify.

Advantages

Why quantify in BIM with ?

  • Verifiable precision

Takeoffs extracted from the model, with fewer human errors than measuring on drawings.

  • Full traceability

Every quantity can be traced back to the element it comes from.

  • Always up to date

When the model changes, the quantities change with it.

  • Ready to budget

Organized by discipline and system for budgets, procurement and contracting.

  • Rigorous quality control

Technical review of the model and the quantities before delivery.

Frequently asked questions

What is BIM quantity takeoff?

It is the process of obtaining exact quantities of modeled elements directly from a BIM model to support budgets, procurement and planning.

Do I need a BIM model?

Yes. The takeoff is carried out from an existing BIM model. If you do not have one yet, KAMON & CO. also offers BIM modeling for each MEPF discipline.

What LOD should the model have?

We recommend LOD 300 or higher for more accurate, reliable results. Takeoff accuracy depends directly on the level of development and the quality of the model supplied.

Which disciplines can be quantified?

HVAC, electrical networks, plumbing and drainage networks and fire protection systems, among other disciplines modeled in BIM.

What does BIM Quantity Takeoff (QTO) mean?

It is the international term for quantifying, or extracting quantities, directly from a BIM model.

Are takeoffs updated if the model changes?

Yes. One of BIM’s main advantages is that quantities can be updated when the model is modified.

Does the service include budgets or costs?

No. The service covers extracting and organizing quantities. Budgets or cost analysis can be developed as a separate service (5D BIM).

In what format are quantities delivered?

In Revit schedules and Excel (.XLSX), classified by discipline or system, or in the format the client’s workflow requires, per scope.

How long does the takeoff take?

The timeline follows the size of the project or the date the client needs: we assess the scope and confirm in the quote whether it can be met. We reply to every inquiry in under 24 business hours, and a formal quote takes 1 to 2 business weeks once we have the complete information.

Do you work with clients outside Colombia and sign NDAs?

Yes. We are a fully remote firm with projects in Colombia and abroad, and when the project requires it we sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before receiving the model.
